Job Description

About QuickMoca

QuickMoca is an AI‑powered career platform that helps professionals build personalized resumes and connects companies to qualified candidates through intelligent matching. We’re redefining how people experience job seeking – removing friction, reducing the “black hole” of applications, and making every interaction feel clear, rewarding, and even… fun.

We believe that good UX is like good game design: it provides clear feedback, celebrates progress, and keeps users engaged. That’s why we’re looking for a UX designer with a game development background to help us level up our user experience.

The Role

Location: Remote (Canada / Eastern Time preferred)
Type: Full‑time or Freelance (40h/week)
Reports to: Head of Product
Team: Product, Engineering, AI

We are looking for a UX Designer who thinks like a game designer. You will apply your expertise in game signs & feedback, player‑centric engagement, and gamification to transform how candidates and recruiters interact with QuickMoca.

You’ll work on complex, interdisciplinary challenges – defining UX requirements across UI, micro‑interactions, animations, and even AI‑powered feedback loops. Your goal: make every click, every score update, and every “match” feel rewarding and crystal clear.

What You’ll Do

Game‑Inspired Feedback Systems

  • Design visual, motion, and sound feedback for key user actions (resume scoring, match percentage, job application status).

  • Create “ability‑like” micro‑interactions that guide users through onboarding and daily use – similar to how a new operator’s abilities are introduced in a game.

Gamification for Engagement

  • Conceptualize and implement gamified elements: XP, streaks, achievements, and progress bars to encourage daily activity and resume improvement.

  • Build a “career quest” system where users unlock tips and templates as they complete profile sections.

User Onboarding & Customization

  • Design intuitive, low‑friction onboarding flows that adapt to user goals (candidate vs. recruiter).

  • Create customization options for resume templates and portfolio views, ensuring clarity and delight.

AI Feedback & Transparency

  • Collaborate with AI engineers to present match scores and reasoning in a way that feels helpful, not overwhelming – like a coach giving clear signposts.

  • Define UX requirements for the “why” behind a score breakdown (skills, experience, portfolio).

Rapid Prototyping & Testing

  • Run guerrilla‑style usability tests with paper prototypes, Figma, or in‑engine (yes, you can use Unity if you like).

  • Generate high‑fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes to validate ideas before engineering.

Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with product managers, front‑end engineers, and AI specialists.

  • Provide clear UX specifications across UI, motion, and micro‑copy.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • 5+ years in UX/product design, with at least 2 years in game development (gameplay UX, level design, or gamification).

  • Proven experience designing clear feedback systems for complex actions (e.g., ability signs, real‑time notifications, progression loops).

  • A portfolio showing how you’ve made complex systems feel simple and rewarding.

Skills & Competencies

  • Game signs & feedback: you know how to make users understand what just happened and what to do next.

  • Gamification principles: you’ve designed points, badges, levels, or similar mechanics that drive engagement.

  • User flows & prototyping: Figma (or similar), plus ability to create interactive prototypes quickly.

  • User research: experience with rapid, low‑cost usability testing (guerrilla style, paper prototypes, etc.).

  • Unity / game engine familiarity is a plus – you can jump into a prototype and tweak UX parameters directly.

Mindset

  • You believe that good UX is about clarity, feedback, and joy – even in a B2B tool.

  • You love solving interdisciplinary problems and communicating with artists, engineers, and product folks.

  • You’re comfortable iterating fast: ship, learn, improve.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with VR or cognitive rehabilitation tools – we may explore immersive experiences in the future.

  • Background in level design or spatial UX – thinking in 2D/3D spaces.

  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS/React to communicate with front‑end engineers.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts (not required, but helpful).

Why Join QuickMoca

  • High impact: Your work will be used by tens of thousands of job seekers and recruiters every month.

  • Creative freedom: You’ll have room to experiment with gamification and feedback systems that have never been done in career tech.

  • Remote‑first culture: Work from Montreal (or anywhere in Canada/ET) with flexible hours.

  • Flat structure: Work directly with the founder and product lead – no bureaucracy.

  • Room to grow: Lead the gamification and engagement strategy as we scale.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: 85,000–85,000–110,000 CAD / year (or equivalent hourly for freelance).

  • Contract type: Full‑time employee or B2B freelancer (depending on preference).

  • Working hours: Flexible, with core overlap in Eastern Time.

  • Paid time off: 20 days vacation + local public holidays.

  • Equipment: Budget for a laptop/accessories if needed.

  • Learning budget: Courses, conferences, or game UX events.
